清华附中国际部：线上学生活动，让有趣的事情变得有意义

5月9日，清华附中国际部的老师和学生们度过了一个特别的星期六。在这一天里，学校将原定的授课日调整为学生活动日，为疫情期间学生隔离在家的生活增添了许多欢乐。初中M.E.A.T社团和高中学生会与指导老师一起策划了精彩的活动，他们制定了详细的时间表，与其他社团携手合作，甚至计划了备用方案，确保这一天的活动顺利进行。

Saturday May 9 was a special day for us. We dropped the normal day to day in an attempt to bring a little extra joy into our Covid-19 lives. The MEAT club and high school Student Council worked with their advisors to plan some incredible activities- they built the schedule, contacted the clubs and made all the provisional plans to make the day special.

This article is to take time to look back and some of the special moments of that day. From the words of our staff and students- pictures and snapshots of all that was incredible about May 9 in the Secondary School.

PART 01

Making Soft Shell Taco with Ms. Kapruan

活动当日，我们在厨房里捕捉到国际部小厨师忙碌的身影。

We were so excited to see all the kids working hard in the kitchen- little THIS chefs, they were.

 

“早在活动策划阶段，初中部M.E.A.T.社团就询问我是否愿意在5月9日与7年级学生一起烹饪一道简单易做的大众西餐。我提议制作Taco饼，不仅因为食材和佐料都很容易买到，而且操作过程简单，哪怕是新手也容易学会。活动当天，学生学习处理配菜、给肉馅调味，制作柔软的Taco饼皮。孩子们积极参与，提出特别好的问题，整个过程我们都非常开心。星期一和星期二的课上他们告诉我，星期六的午餐美味极了。”

 

“The M.E.A.T. Club asked me if I would consider “cooking” with the 7th graders for the May 9th Zoom Fun Day. They said that it should be something Western and simple, yet something that everyone would want to eat. So, I suggested soft shell tacos; the seasonings and other ingredients are easy to buy, and the instructions are simple enough for someone who may not have cooked before to follow. The students learned to shred, dice and chop toppings; they browned and seasoned their meat and they even learned how to make the soft tortillas (bread) to finish the taco. We laughed, they asked particularly good questions and each class that I spoke with on Monday and Tuesday told me that they had a delicious lunch on Saturday.”

PART 02

Film Festival

 

9号上午，多媒体老师Mr. Boling和他的学生们举办了备受欢迎的电影节。

Then there was the ever-popular film festival with Mr. Boling and students.

“5月9日，国际部高中生在线欢聚一堂，共同欣赏学生在2019-2020学年期间创作的一些短片。今年的电影节播放了真人秀、2D动画和国际部的首部3D动画短片。由于许多影片是学生在疫情期间制作的，因此很多有趣的故事短片都是在学生住所内拍摄完成，其中当然也少不了一些家长的本色出演。总体而言，活动当天学生共同享受了一场视觉盛宴！”

“On Saturday, May 9th, the THIS high school came together to celebrate some of the short film projects students have created during the 2019-2020 academic year. This year's film festival included a mix of live action, 2D animation, and THIS' first 3D animated short film. As many of these projects were completed during COVID-19, the festival included a variety of fun stories shot inside students' apartments - many with amazing acting performances from students' parents. Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and enjoy a bit of visual creativity!”

PART 04

Compilation of Music Videos

更多丰富多彩的活动在不同的Zoom房间中同步进行。数学俱乐部进行了解码活动；初中学生组织了猜画游戏，还有名为1,2,3讲故事的英语练习；棋盘游戏社团进行了棋盘游戏；高中部舞蹈社团也开始在线舞蹈教学；此外我们还欣赏了乐队成员的精彩表演！

And there were many more activities. Math club did de-coding, Middle School students played Pictionary and did an exercise called 1,2,3 Story! Board game club did what board game club does- Board Games!!! HS Dance club was also in effect! We were super proud of our band members too!

“自二月在线学习以来，高中乐队的学生们一直忙于原创音乐的制作。学生活动日上，五名学生演奏了他们最喜爱的原创作品，包括二十世纪五十年代风格的摇滚歌曲，电颤琴二重奏，伴有钢琴和架子鼓的流行风格回旋曲，小提琴和钢琴二重奏以及钢琴独奏。非常高兴能在乐队课堂之外听到学生们的演奏。”

 

“High school band students have been composing, writing their own music, since distance learning was initiated in February.  Five students showcased their favorite pieces they've written.  It was nice being heard outside of just the band class. Pieces included a 1950s style rock song, a vibraphone duet, a pop style rondo with piano and drum set, a violin and piano duet, and a piano solo. “

Museum Challenge

PART 06

Volunteer for Family and Community

5月9日下午，学生参加了家庭和社区的志愿者活动，通过一些义务劳动向家庭成员或是所在社区献一份爱心与责任。孩子们打扫房间、为家人或是有需要的邻居做一顿饭、打扫临近的公园、清洁健身器材或是联系一家慈善机构并成为志愿者。孩子们所做的一点一滴都令学校感到由衷的自豪。我们收到了许多反馈，在此与大家分享其中一二。

And finally, there was the May 9 afternoon of volunteer work and family support. Students were asked to do something to give back-show good will as members of their families and communities, this could include but is not limited to-cleaning part of or the whole house; cooking meals for family and siblings; cooking meals for a neighbor in need; cleaning up your neighborhood or an nearby park; pick up trash and wiped own exercise equipment; find a charity that needs volunteers. The school is so very proud of all that our kids did for you- the families, and for the Beijing community. We have been sent many examples but can only share with you a few.

国际部的学生在这一天的时间里庆祝课堂所学，展现自己的创造力和优秀品格，分享喜悦和友谊，提升合作意识和社区意识。尽管目前我们仍处逆境，但我们依然能够秉持乐观积极的态度愉快生活。这就是国际部的清华精神！

In summary, THIS spent a day celebrating all that we are as a school; our creativity and our spirit; our joy and our friendship; our sense of collaboration and our sense of community; and our care for one another. In spite of our difficult situation, we were able to have a wonderful day filled with positivity. That is the THIS way!
